Summer is the time we often get away and reset our minds.  For some, a beach house is the perfect answer and others choose to unwind on a lake or mountain retreat.  Some find a condo in the city to be an ideal place to recharge.  Everyone has a different version of the perfect getaway, and we showcase a variety of second homes in this issue with amazing architectural details and interiors. 

Carolyn Kendall of Alcott Interiors designed a stylish mountain house for family living. In Seagrove Beach, Tracery Interiors and T.S. Adams Studio teamed up to deliver a beach house for the ultimate in family indoor/ outdoor living. Jennifer Burgess Loh pushed the design envelope in a Houston condominium for dramatic results.  In The Landing at Keowee Springs, MHK and Cheatham Fletcher Scott achieved their goal of a home that seamlessly fits into the lakeside setting.  

Landscaping is critical to establishing the curb appeal of a home and in Designer Q&A, Mario Nievera and Keith Williams of Nievera Williams talk about their approach to hardscape and plant selection to maximize impact.  In On Trend, a wide selection of outdoor planters is presented.  Opaline glass is featured in Antiques Obsession and The Hay-Adams hotel is showcased in Destinations.  This luxurious boutique hotel is steeped in history and offers stunning views of D.C. landmarks.  I hope that you enjoy the amazing retreats that are featured in this issue, and I am certain that you will find many design ideas to inspire you.
